Genesis:

As per NFHS-4, 5% children in the age of group of <5 years were severely wasted (weight-for-height) in Rampur due to poor socio-economic conditions of parents which led to the children not getting adequate macronutrients.

In this effect, there are two problems to be solved:

  • Empowering local farmers to produce crops useful for local consumption

  • Eradicating malnutrition among SAM/MAM, Anemic Girls as well as Lactating and Pregnant Mothers

Product:

Poshan Kit consisting of millets and local agri-produce was prepared and distributed to the target group.

Process:

A Pilot Project, in partnership with local administration, was started with 101 SAM children in February 2021. Based on the response, the project was scaled up to 1916 identified SAM children of Rampur in November 2021. Currently, the project aids 3,00,000+ beneficiaries.

Impact:

  • Nutritional status of 83% children improved within 3 months.

  • Cultivation area under project increased to 720 acres due to promotion of local produce
